In a remarkable partnership, students from Mr. Raytis’s Advanced Woodshop Class at San Leandro High School have joined forces with Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro to craft KinderClub Carts. These innovative carts aim to assist staff while providing kindergarteners a convenient way to transport their backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles, and jackets between classrooms. A request from Luz Diaz, a former program manager at Garfield Elementary, sparked the initiative.
Last year, Mr. Raytis and his students designed and constructed the first four carts. Following that success, they completed more carts tailored for the remaining elementary schools in the district in April.
To commemorate this successful collaboration, BGCSL kinder members from McKinley Elementary participated in a walking field trip to San Leandro High School. The young students had the opportunity to meet their woodshop counterparts, explore the workshop, and discover high school’s exciting woodworking opportunities. This collaboration showcases the positive impact of community partnerships in enhancing educational experiences for students and members.
