Applications are open for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2026-2027 school year. Eligible children must be at least 4 years old by September 1, 2026.
Welcome to KinderClub
In partnership with San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and New Haven Unified School Districts, BGCSL offers daily kinder programming at 19 school sites, running from school dismissal until 6 p.m.
To best serve our youngest learners, transitional kindergarten and kindergarten programs remain separate from our 1st-5th grade program and always maintain a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio. Led by our trained professionals, our KinderClub provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can explore their interests, unleash their creativity, and build Great Futures.
Academic Support
Each day, we set aside dedicated time, often referred to as Power Hour, for our youngest members to build early academic skills through reading, age-appropriate learning activities, and homework support when needed. Our youth development team provides guidance and encouragement to help members strengthen their skills and develop positive learning habits.
Daily Enrichment Opportunities
Our programs are designed to encourage creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning among our TK and kindergarten members. Members may participate in activities such as art, dance, STEM projects, music, cooking, and more. Enrichment classes are also offered throughout the year, with specific classes and activities varying by grade, district and school site.
Supper & Snack
During the important hours between the end of the school day and heading home, we want to help ensure members have access to nutritious food. Snacks and/or supper are provided by each school district at no cost to families. Meal options and menus vary by district and school site.
Healthy Lifestyles
From building self-esteem and confidence to strengthening social and emotional skills, Clubs offer many ways for members to support their overall well-being. During Club hours, kindergarten members take part in activities that encourage movement, mindfulness, positive relationships, and self-expression, including yoga, meditation, outdoor games, and other wellness activities.
TK/Kinder FAQs
For New Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Students: Applications for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students open Jan. 1, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year. Eligible children must be at least 4 years old by September 1, 2026. Existing TK-K members are considered returning members and do not need to submit an application at this time.
For Families in the New Haven Unified School District: Families in the New Haven Unified School District should apply through the district here.
Enrollment is based on capacity at each school-based Club site, and applying does not guarantee placement: BGCSL will share confirmation details beginning April 30, 2026 once student rosters are provided in the spring. Members currently enrolled in TK or Kinder programs do not need to apply.
- School registration must match your child’s BGCSL enrollment placement: If your child completes an interdistrict transfer, please email parentportal@bgcsl.org so we can update your child’s school site location.
New Haven Unified School District families apply through the district at tinyurl.com/NHUSDafterschool. Once rosters are confirmed beginning April 30, 2026, BGCSCL staff will reach out with additional information to complete enrollment.
For San Leandro and San Lorenzo families to apply, first-time members must become Club members, and existing members must renew their membership. Once you receive a welcome email regarding your membership, you can apply for the after-school program at your child’s school. After you have finished the application process, you will receive an email confirming your application has been successfully submitted. BGCSL will share confirmation details once student rosters are provided by districts beginning April 30, 2026. Enrollment is based on site capacity. SLUSD and SLZUSD families register in the Parent Portal.

The school-site Program Manager will contact parents/caregivers if space becomes available. Placement priority will align with the requirements outlined by our funding sources.
Children can only attend the program at the school where they are enrolled. There are no programs located on-site at high schools. Teen programming takes place at our main Clubhouse at 2200 San Leandro Blvd., in San Leandro.
Each school site will provide a mandatory parent/caregiver orientation. During orientation, parents will be able to meet our staff and learn about our programs, including Club expectations such as attendance requirements and our code of conduct.
Attendance requirements vary by site and funding sources. We encourage all members in our programs to attend Monday- Friday from school dismissal until 6 p.m. If your child needs to be picked up early, please contact the Program Director for information on the early release process.
Our school based Club programs are funded in part through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), established by Senate Bill 129 and Assembly Bill 130. These funds support school districts in offering expanded learning programs for students in transitional kindergarten through 8th grade during after-school hours. Program fees vary by district. Members must be picked up by 6 p.m. If you know you will be late, please contact your school-site Program Manager immediately.

Boys & Girls Clubs programming starts after school and ends at 6 p.m. Children must be signed-out by a preauthorized parent or caregiver by 6 p.m.
The ratio is 1:10 for TK and kinder members.
Yes. Our TK-K program is run separately from our 1st-5th program at the Club sites.
Yes, your child will have the same KinderCare Coordinator and Youth Development Professionals (YDP) each day.
Yes, snacks are provided every day. If your child has allergic reactions to certain foods, please notify the staff by indicating them on the membership application during the online registration process. If your child needs more snacks than the program provides, please provide your child(ren) with additional healthy (no candy or soda) snacks. Every program welcomes donations of healthy snacks.
BGCSL staff are not licensed medical professionals and do not administer medication except under specific, approved conditions in accordance with California law. If your child requires medication during Club hours, please contact the Program Manager to initiate the accommodation process. A written authorization from a licensed California healthcare provider and written permission from a parent/guardian are required for all prescription or over-the-counter medications.
BGCSL collaborates with our partnering school districts to determine appropriate access and accommodations for students who require medication administration beyond self-administration.
These situations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis in partnership with district personnel, Club staff, families, and healthcare providers. Support from the school district may be provided based on the specific medical and programming needs of the student. Please notify your Program Manager as early as possible to begin this collaborative planning process.
Medications must be provided in the original, properly labeled container and stored securely at the site. Staff may assist a child with self-administration only when appropriate, but will not administer medications unless required for an emergency and only if trained to do so.
All medication administration is documented, and confidentiality is maintained. These authorizations must be renewed annually or whenever a change occurs.
Yes. Each child who joins our Club is provided a one-year membership free of charge, which must be renewed annually. Being a Club kid means your child has access to register for a variety of our BGCSL programs and event offerings throughout the calendar year. Although our membership is free, there may be costs associated with additional programs your child might like to register for throughout the year.
Yes, we offer full-day programming during summer break and some school holidays. Enrollment for these camps will be announced throughout the year by your site’s Program Manager.
Since the very first Club opened in 1947 to give local kids a safe place to go, safety has been the number one priority of Boys & Girls Clubs.
After all, safety is where it all begins. Our data shows that environments that are safe, positive, and inclusive are essential for young people’s development. When kids feel safe, they’re empowered to learn, connect with their peers, and explore their interests. At Boys & Girls Clubs, kids and teens can rely on a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment where they can focus on what’s most important —being a kid.
The landscape of youth safety has drastically changed in our 78 year history. From public health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic to the Internet’s impact on bullying and self-esteem, kids face new threats to their stability and well-being each day.
As part of our recent efforts to strengthen safety, all sites now have a Site Safety and Operations Coordinator (SSOC). The SSOC is responsible for managing opening and closing procedures, adhering to BGCSL, school site, and district policies, and ensuring high safety performance standards. This coordinator oversees the onboarding training for Youth Development Professionals and collaborates with the Operations Team to enhance safety protocols. Additionally, the SSOC works directly with site leadership to support both the emotional and physical safety of our members.
Furthermore, sites that meet a high enrollment threshold will include a Program Site Coordinator, who plays a key role in assisting the Program Manager with daily after-school programming at BGCSL. This position ensures that programs are delivered in alignment with the After School Education & Safety (ASES) and Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) standards. The Program Site Coordinator will collaborate closely with BGCSL staff, site staff, students, and community partners to create a safe, engaging, and outcome-driven environment for our programs.
