Mental Health Awareness Month: Teen Focused Panel Addresses Youth Mental Health

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Commonwealth Club World Affairs of California in San Francisco organized a panel discussion focused on teens. The conversation addressed the impact of mental health on young people in light of the fast-paced and changing environment of the post-COVID era. Paula Ambrose, Principal at Blue Shield of California, provided the introduction, and Zach Gottlieb, a mental health activist, speaker, and founder of Talk With Zach, served as the moderator.

Among the four teen panelists was Brihanna Best, a 17-year-old San Leandro High School junior and member of BGCSL’s Teen Clubhouse. Brihanna is a youth leader and mental health advocate who works as a Digital Media Intern at the Club’s Best Buy Teen Tech Center, where she uses storytelling and technology to promote emotional well-being. Brihanna is also enrolled in a Child Development ROP program and plans to become a child psychologist, focusing on creating safe spaces for youth.

A big thank you to the Commonwealth Club and Blue Shield of California for highlighting this important topic and for inviting Brihanna to share her insights on the state of mental health among teens in our community.
