Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro Partner with the Michael Phelps Foundation to Build Water Safety, Confidence

This Michael Phelps Foundation partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro and the San Leandro Recreation Department to bring lifesaving swim lessons to the community. Built on the simple idea that confidence in the water helps kids build confidence everywhere, the program created a supportive, fun environment where youth could learn new skills, grow, and succeed.

More than 70 members in 3rd through 5th grade from the San Leandro and San Lorenzo school districts jumped in, learned new strokes, built essential water safety skills, and made new friends along the way. Week after week, participants showed up ready to try something new, challenge themselves, and celebrate their progress in and out of the pool.

Alongside swim instruction, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro delivered 24 healthy living and social emotional learning lessons, including 16 IM Healthy lessons focused on social emotional learning and eight IM Successful lessons centered on goal setting, leadership, and personal growth.

To celebrate their hard work and accomplishments, every participant received a medal, a Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro pool towel, and a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate.

We’re incredibly grateful for partnerships like these that make meaningful, lifelong experiences possible. Together, we are helping youth grow safer, healthier, and more confident, both in and out of the water.
