Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro Celebrates Youth of the Year Awards Ceremony

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro proudly celebrated one of our most inspiring traditions, the Youth of the Year Awards Ceremony. Each spring, this event, shared by Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide, shines a spotlight on the members who stand out for their leadership, character, and commitment to healthy lifestyles.

The evening was guided by our Masters of Ceremonies, Chief Program Officer Marshall Lott IV and Bohannon Middle School Program Manager Daniel Leslie. Families, staff, and community members packed the room to cheer on 25 incredible honorees and 6 winners representing our 24 school-based Clubs and Teen Clubhouse.

Our CEO, Kim Pace, welcomed everyone, reminding the audience why the event matters so deeply. “When young people have a place to belong and adults who believe in them, they can achieve incredible things,” she shared. Her words framed the evening as both a recognition of achievements and a call to continue lifting youth up every day.

The highlight of the night came when our Program Managers and Teen Clubhouse Manager stepped forward to present the awards. One by one, honorees were celebrated for their leadership and dedication. Each story reminded us that Boys & Girls Clubs are more than after-school programs. They are launching pads for future leaders.

After the applause and recognition, honorees and guests gathered for a group photo to capture the moment. Then came a sweet surprise: ice cream sundaes, generously provided by Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, which gave families and friends a chance to celebrate together.

The evening closed with powerful words from Keynote Speaker Antwinette Turner, San Leandro Police Lieutenant and proud Club alumna. Turner shared her own journey from Club kid to community leader, inspiring our young members in the audience to dream big and reminding everyone of the lifelong impact the Club can have.

It was an evening filled with pride, community, and inspiration. The ceremony showcased what is possible when young people are given opportunities to shine.
