Youth Voice Matters. It is crucial for the health of our young people, their families and our community to provide a place where our teens have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with caring adults. At the San Leandro Boys & Girls Club our mission is to provide a safe space with caring adults where our teens can be challenged, empowered and supported to become the leaders of their tomorrow.

Workforce Development Matters – Hack the Hood Level Up Program

  • Hack the Hood (HtH), an Oakland-based nonprofit organization, is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro (BGCSL) to train 60 San Leandro middle and high school youth in real-world web design , coding and career planning through HTH’s  FREE Level Up pilot program for the Club

  • Over the course of 13 weeks, Boys and Girls Club of San Leandro students participated in Hack the Hood’s Bootcamp program on web development, branding, customer service, and more while completing personal portfolios, design challenges, attending business trips at tech companies, while building websites with local small business clients.

“I really enjoyed the program and have made new friends in it. It was very fun and helpful, it was a step into the real world without the stress of being alone throughout the transition.”

“This program was fun and amazing to touch a lot of hard work to manage my time, but the outcome is so fulfilling that the struggle is what drives you so I don’t regret anything. Anyone who wants to better themselves and have fun alone the way this is the program for you.”
